Report: NFL bringing back veteran combine

Sam Sharpe-USA TODAY Sports / Reuters

The NFL is bringing back its combine for players with previous experience in the league, Mike Garafolo of NFL Network reports.

Previously called the veteran combine, it will instead be named the "Pro Player Combine" and be reserved for players who entered the league between 2014 and 2016, according to Garafolo.

The veteran combine debuted in 2015 to provide free agents with a chance to prove to execs that they still have what it takes to play on Sundays. Former participants included Michael Sam, Felix Jones, and Brady Quinn. There were no significant signings, however, and the idea was shelved this year.

The new combine will take place in Phoenix next March.
