Galaxy president confirms talks with Jermaine Jones

United States international Jermaine Jones has likely played his last MLS match in a Colorado Rapids kit after LA Galaxy president Chris Klein confirmed discussions have taken place between his club and the player.

Jones hasn't exactly been secretive about his desire to join another side, and with a home in the Los Angeles area, he appears poised to become the latest decorated veteran to join the record five-time MLS champ.

"Jermaine is someone who will be free and he's a national team player that lives here, so we got together and had a very nice conversation with him," Klein said, according to ESPN FC's Jeff Carlisle.

Klein's quotes come two days after Jones was pictured sitting courtside at a Lakers game with the club president and Galaxy general manager Peter Vagenas, prompting speculation that the 35-year-old German-born standout is about to make a move.

If Jones continues his MLS pilgrimage west on the heels of spells with the Rapids and New England Revolution, the Galaxy would have to send compensation to Colorado despite the fact the midfielder's contract with the club expires at year's end.

Should Jones make the Galaxy switch, it's unclear if he'll be signed as a Designated Player or using Target Allocation Money (TAM), which will increase by $400,000 to $1.2 million next season per commissioner Don Garber's announcement Friday.
