Mavs' Carlisle: You don't run out of timeouts, 'they just have a price'

While his team has looked uncharacteristically poor to start the season, Rick Carlisle remains one of the most innovative strategists in the game.

The Dallas Mavericks bench boss implemented a unique strategy in Wednesday's blowout defeat to the Sacramento Kings, calling two timeouts after the Mavericks had reached their second-half limit.

"You don't ever really run out of timeouts," Carlisle told Brad Townsend of SportsDay. "They just have a price."

While Carlisle was granted a timeout on both occasions, they didn't come without consequences, as Dallas also picked up a technical each time.

"I mean, for a regulation game last night, that's got to be an NBA record for timeouts called," Carlisle said. "That's not the kind of record you want to be setting."

This isn't the first time Carlisle has exceeded his timeout limit this season, doing so back on Nov. 14 in a loss to the New York Knicks.
