Report: Tigers fielding calls on Sanchez, struggling to move veterans

The Detroit Tigers are trying to make something happen this offseason.

Detroit is reportedly getting some hits on right-hander Anibal Sanchez, according to Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports.

Sanchez is owed $21 million, which includes a $5 million buyout, though it's unclear which teams are interested in him.

Last season, the veteran had an awful time, going 7-13 with a 5.87 ERA over 153 1/3 innings.

This is the first bit of news to come out of Detroit and after general manager Al Avila made the bold statement that change was coming to the team, he's since balked at those words after realizing it's not as easy as just saying it.

Avila wanted to trade some veterans, with names like Justin Verlander, Miguel Cabrera, and Ian Kinsler floating around as potential trade chips to set a foundation for the future.

With that, Detroit appears to be having a hard time moving Kinsler and outfielder J.D. Martinez, according to Rosenthal.

Kinsler was a staple for the Tigers last season, slashing .288/.348/.484 with 28 home runs over 153 games, while garnering his first career Gold Glove award.

A year after he was named to the American League All-Star team, Martinez's 2016 campaign was even better. The 29-year-old slashed .307/.373/.535 with 22 home runs and a career-high 35 doubles.
