Report: Seahawks' Thomas 'just needs time' after talk of retirement

Earl Thomas shocked the football world when, immediately after suffering a broken leg in Sunday night's win over the Carolina Panthers, he tweeted that he was considering retirement.

For an elite talent who started in 106 consecutive games to open his career before sitting out the week prior with a hamstring strain, the news of a season-ending injury was evidently tough to take.

But don't count on Thomas actually calling it career just yet.

Those close to the Seattle Seahawks' star safety told ESPN's Josina Anderson "he'll be OK," and that he "just needs time" following the injury.

Still just 27 years old, the five-time Pro Bowler presumably has a long career ahead of him if he indeed continues to play. Though he wouldn't confirm plans for the future, Thomas told Anderson that he's doing well.

"I'm OK," he said. "...The crazy thing about it is that I'm so at peace with everything (life & football)."

Thomas will take the rest of the season and look to get healthy in preparation for the 2017 campaign. In the meantime, Seattle is faced with the difficult task of replacing a future Hall of Famer and trying to avoid any sort of substantial drop off on the back end of the defense.
