Report: Texas to decline bowl bid if invited

Brett Davis-US PRESSWIRE

Texas will not accept a bowl bid if invited to one this season, multiple bowl officials told Kevin Lyttle of the American-Statesmen.

The Longhorns are not immediately eligible for a bowl game due to their 5-7 record. However, with more games than qualified teams, schools with the highest academic progress rates (APR) are next in line.

Texas would be one of the top schools based on APR, though school officials have let bowl officials know they will not accept an invite.

At new head coach Tom Herman's press conference, president Greg Fenves said it was Herman's decision whether to accept a potential bid, while Herman said it was up to the athletic department.
