LeBron: 'Disrespectful' and 'foolish' to pencil in Warriors-Cavs Finals

Bob Donnan-USA TODAY Sports

The 2017 NBA Finals are still months away, but the two presumptuous title favorites have already started to exchange shots through the media.

Draymond Green got the ball rolling by proclaiming he would relish the chance to crush the Cleveland Cavaliers should the two teams come out of their respective conferences. Iman Shumpert responded Wednesday by promising to "bust they a--" in a rematch with the Golden State Warriors.

LeBron James, however, is sitting out this war of words.

"To be completely honest, it's not," James said about whether he's thinking ahead to a third matchup between the teams, to ESPN's Dave McMenamin. "It would be selfish of me and foolish of me to think about playing the Warriors in another finals. It would be disrespectful to my teammates, disrespectful to the rest of the league, and disrespectful to the Warriors to even (entertain the thought)."

"I have zero entitlement on this journey ... it would be foolish of me and disrespectful to myself, to my teammates and to the rest of the competition to just put ourselves in a third matchup with them. And I haven't even fantasized about it. I haven't thought about it. It's too long of a season."

Nothing is set in stone, but the Warriors and the Cavaliers are positioned on a collision course to meet in June. Both teams sit atop their respective conferences and while the Toronto Raptors, Los Angeles Clippers, and San Antonio Spurs could present problems in the playoffs, it's quite clear who the top two teams are.
