Heat's Waiters out at least 2 weeks with groin injury

Miami Heat shooting guard Dion Waiters will be sidelined for the next two weeks, at minimum, due to a right groin injury.

Waiters sat out the Heat's loss to the Boston Celtics on Monday due to soreness, and an MRI revealed a pectineus tear, the team announced Wednesday. Waiters was not going to travel with the team on its upcoming three-game road trip regardless.

He'll be re-evaluated in two weeks, which, thanks to a ridiculously packed stretch of schedule for the Heat, means he'll miss at least eight more games.

The 24-year-old, who signed a two-year, $6-million deal with the Heat in the offseason, is averaging 14.2 points and four assists though 16 games, while shooting 38.4 percent from the field and 34.4 percent from 3-point range.

The injury couldn't have come at a worse time for Waiters, who was finally rounding into form after a bumpy start, and was coming off his best game of the season - a 28-point, six-assist outing against the Memphis Grizzlies on Saturday.

Over his past eight games, Waiters has averaged 17.6 points, 3.7 rebounds, and 4.6 assists, while posting a plus-3.5 net rating.
