Report: Cal's Sonny Dykes top target for Baylor HC job

Casey Sapio-USA TODAY Sports

Sonny Dykes could be on the move as multiple sources told ESPN's Mark Schlabach that the Cal frontman is Baylor's new target to fill their vacant coaching position.

Baylor was reported to have been interested in SMU head coach Chad Morris, but the Mustangs boss reportedly told his team that he is staying with them for the 2017 season.

The 47-year-old Dykes has a 19-30 record in four seasons at Cal, after posting a 22-15 mark at Louisiana Tech from 2010-12. He's a native of Texas and the son of Spike Dykes, who coached at Texas Tech.

Dykes runs a fast-paced version of the "Air Raid" offense, which would mesh well with the Bears' offense that also runs a fast-paced spread attack. Baylor currently ranks 29th in the country in passing, averaging 275 yards per contest. Dykes' offense at Cal is the nation's 3rd-ranked passing attack.
