Duncan to Spurs fans in '97: 'Hope y'all are ready to win a lot of games'

Tim Duncan anticipated leaving a legacy in San Antonio long before it happened.

In honor of the icon's retirement at the end of last season, the Spurs shared a video of The Big Fundamental arriving in Texas after they selected him first overall in 1997.

In the clip, a 21-year-old Duncan addresses the large crowd saying, "I don't know what to say. I just hope y'all are ready to win a lot of games."

And win a lot of games - plus five championships - they sure did.

Duncan suited up for the Spurs for 19 playoff-bound years, and finished his career with a 1,072-438 regular-season record. That's good for a .710 winning percentage, which is the best mark in NBA history for a franchise over such a long span and tops in professional sports over the past two decades.

"I haven't been a Spur for long, but I love being a Spur," the future Hall of Famer said.
