Cal's Rabb notches double-double, stars in season debut

Kelley L Cox / USA TODAY Sports

Ivan Rabb didn't disappoint in his season debut, but it wasn't enough to get California a road victory against San Diego State on Monday night.

The Golden Bears' 6-foot-11 forward recorded 19 points and 11 rebounds in the contest, both game highs. Rabb and his Cal teammates, however, came up short in a 77-65 loss.

Rabb missed the first two games of the season because of a sprained toe. He elected to return for his sophomore campaign, despite being considered a likely NBA lottery pick at the end of last year.

He logged 30 minutes of action and came off the bench in his first game of the season.

Rabb wasn't the only potential NBAer making his season debut in San Diego. Aztecs forward Malik Pope played his first game after missing the first three due to injury, and poured in 14 points with five rebounds in the winning effort.
