Roberts wins NL Manager of the Year
Los Angeles Dodgers skipper Dave Roberts was named National League Manager of the Year on Tuesday in his first season on the job, beating out Joe Maddon of the Chicago Cubs and Dusty Baker of the Washington Nationals.
Roberts earned 16 first-place votes from the BBWAA, beating out the eight for Maddon, and four for Baker.
The first-year manager faced plenty of adversity during the regular season, yet still managed to lead the club to a 91-71 record.
The Dodgers set an MLB record when they placed 28 players on the disabled list - including ace Clayton Kershaw, who missed nearly two months with a herniated disc - but Roberts' leadership kept the Dodgers alive in the NL West before a second-half surge saw them leap past the San Francisco Giants.
It was Roberts' first full season as a manager in 2016. He managed the San Diego Padres for just one game in 2015.
