Report: Romo 'doesn't sound ready'

Tony Romo's back injury was expected to require a 10-week recovery period, but it appears the veteran quarterback is still not ready to take the field.

Though he has been a limited participant in Dallas Cowboys' practices of late, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, the veteran passer may not practice this week as he "doesn't sound ready."

Rapoport reports Romo may be limited to just conditioning in his continuing rehab from the broken bone in his back he sustained in the preseason.

The Cowboys had hoped to have Romo in the lineup by this point, as they chose not to put him on injured reserve to begin the season, and thus he took up a roster spot that could have been allocated to a healthy player.

Team owner Jerry Jones had said in recent weeks that Romo is healthy, but after rookie quarterback Dak Prescott led the Cowboys to their seventh straight win on Sunday, he announced he won't speculate on Romo's availability this week.

Instead, it appears Prescott will remain at the controls - as he has piloted the team to the top of the NFC with a 7-1 record - and Mark Sanchez will continue to be his backup as Romo focuses on returning to full health.
