Marlins Man to miss Game 7 due to safety concerns

There will be a notable absence behind the plate for Game 7 of the World Series on Wednesday.

Laurence Leavy, aka the Marlins Man, has been a fixture at marquee sporting events in recent years but he will not be in attendance after appearing at the last five World Series clinchers due to concerns over his safety in Cleveland, Darren Rovell of ESPN reports.

Leavy had issues with fans at Progressive Field in June, with the 58-year-old lawyer saying that he had to leave the stadium in order to avoid further harassment.

"Everywhere I went, I was threatened," he said. "I can't even use the words on the video and publish it. But it was like, 'Get out of here; I wish I had a gun or a knife; If I didn't leave my knife in the pickup truck, I'd stab you right now; Get the frick out of here - we were two runs away from beating you in '97.' I mean, I can't even say the stuff I was told because it's a public forum."

Leavy also tweeted last week that he had to change the settings on his account because he had received too many rude messages from Indians fans.

The Chicago Cubs forced a Game 7 after a 9-3 win over the Indians on Tuesday in Cleveland.
