Butler thanks Rondo, Wade for actions during scuffle

Dennis Wierzbicki-USA TODAY Sports

The Chicago Bulls had a good night Thursday, welcoming local son Dwyane Wade to the team with a big night in a 105-99 home-opening win over the Boston Celtics. Franchise player Jimmy Butler even got into a brief scuffle with Celtics forward and college teammate Jae Crowder, and then gave Wade and Rajon Rondo props after the game.

"I want to thank Rondo for backing me up. And Wade was practicing his 3-point shot. That's my guy," Butler told the Chicago Tribune's K.C. Johnson

Wade, of course, used the briefly-tense stoppage in play to practice his perimeter shot. It may have worked too: the 34-year-old sealed the game with his fourth trey of the season (he had a total of seven last year).

Butler elaborated on his teammates' support during the scuffle, which resulted in four technicals along with an offensive foul on Crowder. He was especially pleased with the mercurial Rondo.
