Oklahoma's Basquine addresses upbringing; father refutes claim

Rob Ferguson-USA TODAY Sports

Oklahoma walk-on receiver Nick Basquine has become an important part of Bob Stoops' squad this season.

Basquine, whose father Anthony played for the Sooners in the 1980s, took to Twitter Wednesday to honor his mother and describe the relationship with his father after his parents divorced.

The sophomore wrote that his mom, Mary, had to work two, at times three jobs to provide for the family, and that he has no recollection or memories of his father.

Basquine's father, now under the surname Stafford, replied to his son's letter with one of his own.

Stafford states - via his daughter's Twitter account - that his son chose not to be a part of his life, and that any family struggle that occurred, had nothing to do with his absence.
