LA Galaxy's Zardes, Keane, Gerrard return to training before playoff tilt

The LA Galaxy welcomed a trio of familiar faces back to training ahead of a playoff Knockout Round fixture against Real Salt Lake, with Steven Gerrard, Robbie Keane, and Gyasi Zardes returning after various layoffs.

Keane was rested in the final regular-season match against FC Dallas, while Gerrard had returned to Liverpool for a touch of rehab. Zardes had been ruled out since the end of August with a broken foot.

"He's coming along," head coach Bruce Arena said of Zardes, according to Arielle Castillo from MLSsoccer.com. "He's a tremendous athlete, very dedicated."

Zardes hasn't been cleared to play, and likely won't be available for the team's first playoff match, and potentially not available for a Western Conference Semifinal match, either.

"It all depends on my next X-ray," Zardes said. "I can feel great all I want, but it all depends on the X-ray to get cleared.

"Today I was working on stability and also just getting more touches under my belt, because I haven’t touched the ball in a long time. Coming out of that I felt great. I felt like I'm back where I used to be. Not 100 percent - but as far as touching the ball, and doing some of the tricks I can do, and some of the passing and shooting. It's amazing."
