Celtics' Smart out for opener, expects to miss at least 1 week

Boston Celtics point guard Marcus Smart has been ruled out for the season opener Wednesday night against the Brooklyn Nets with a left ankle sprain.

Smart, who suffered the injury in Boston's preseason finale last Wednesday, expects to return to the court in one week. He'll likely see game action a short time after that.

In his sophomore season, Smart averaged 9.1 points, 4.2 rebounds, three assists, and 1.5 steals, largely as a reserve. His absence will further weaken a Celtics bench unit that's already without backup center Kelly Olynyk.
