Reverend threatens reporter for implying LSU-Alabama could be close

John David Mercer-USA TODAY Sports

College football on Saturdays down South is religion, even to the religious.

No. 1 Alabama and LSU are heading into a bye week before their Nov. 5 tilt in Baton Rouge. The Tigers have looked like a different team since interim head coach Ed Orgeron took over from Les Miles, winning three straight in impressive fashion.

Alabama beat reporter Michael Casagrande wrote an article comparing the teams statistically, suggesting they might be more evenly matched in some areas than fans would assume.

One Crimson Tide fan disagreed with the article and suggested someone should beat Casagrande with a baseball bat - and the fan also happens to be a reverend.

Casagrande found humor in the email.

The reverend, however, did not, sending another email instructing the reporter to cover Auburn instead and to leave the state for his own benefit.

The reverend may belong to a religious sect discovered this spring.
