Bills' Ryan calls Landry's hit on Williams 'unnecessary'

Buffalo Bills head coach Rex Ryan sounded off on Miami Dolphins wide receiver Jarvis Landry for delivering an illegal block on safety Aaron Williams during Sunday's game.

Landry hit an unsuspecting Williams and was penalized 15 yards for unnecessary roughness. Williams was taken to the hospital in an ambulance with a neck injury and underwent a precautionary MRI, before flying back with the team to Buffalo.

Ryan chastised Landry for the play during his press conference Monday.

"Totally unnecessary. Did he launch? Target? Yeah. Unsportsmanlike? Yeah. Now I have a player in jeopardy," Ryan said.

"Never need to launch, hit a guy in the head or neck. They say it's a football play. It wasn't ... I'm sure Landry realized it was a mistake."

However, Ryan confirmed that Williams took part in meetings.

"Aaron Williams was in meetings, walking around the building. Our medical staff is still in the process of evaluating his head and neck."
