Rose believes it's only a 'matter of time' before he's elite again

Derrick Rose is expecting a big first season in the Big Apple.

Despite Rose's play slipping considerably since his 2010-11 MVP campaign, the New York Knicks' new starting point guard feels it's only a "matter of time" before he returns to elite form.

"Yeah, but I know I am," Rose told ESPN's Ian Begley. "That's no surprise to me. It's only a matter of time until I put it together. All the hard work I put in, everything how I dedicated my whole life to this game, what I sacrificed. It's only a few that did it and that's doing it. So it's all about just putting it together."

Not only is Rose projecting a big year for himself, but he's also anticipating a monster season from the Knicks, calling them a "superteam" on multiple occasions this offseason.

"I'm very excited. We got a lot of great pieces," Rose said. "We're learning how to play together. We're learning chemistry. But it comes from experience and it comes with playing with each other."

Rose averaged 16.4 points, 4.7 assists, and 3.2 rebounds in 2015-16, but was inefficient from the field, shooting 42.7 percent from the floor and just 29.3 percent from beyond the arc.

Rose missed the majority of the Knicks' preseason while attending trial.
