Geno Smith has reportedly escaped a major knee injury.

The New York Jets believe the quarterback's knee is "fine," after he was forced from his first start of the season in the second quarter of Sunday's win against the Baltimore Ravens, a source told NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.

Smith is still reportedly set to undergo a precautionary MRI.

Ryan Fitzpatrick - who started the first six games of the season - finished the game in relief of Smith, leading the Jets to victory and further muddying the club's quarterback situation.

After the win, Fitzpatrick didn't hold back in expressing his disappointment at losing his starting job.

"When your owner stops believing in you and your general manager stops believing in you and coaches stop believing in you, sometimes all you have is yourself," said Fitzpatrick.

The Jets were reportedly ready to give Smith a fair shot at retaining the starting gig. It's unclear whether Fitzpatrick's performance will force them to reconsider that stance.
