Stafford hits 2 rare milestones in comeback win over Redskins

Detroit Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford hit two impressive milestones during the 100th game of his career on Sunday.

First, he ended the game with 27,890 passing yards, more than any player in NFL history through the first 100 games of their career. More importantly, he led the Lions on the 24th game-winning drive of his career.

Stafford won his 46th career game, meaning over half of his wins have come when leading the Lions on game-winning drives in the fourth quarter or overtime. Of those 24, 16 have come with less than two minutes left in the game.

Stafford is now extremely underrated when clutch quarterbacks are discussed. That's likely due to the Lions' lack of playoff success, but also the late-game errors he's made throughout his career, something he readily admits.

"I expect to win every time I get the ball," Stafford said following the game, according to Dave Birkett of The Detroit Free Press. "It's not always going to happen that way. Tennessee we had a chance and I didn't make the play to win. But I expect to win. I believe in the guys that I got in the huddle with me. I think they believe in me and this is NFL football. This happens and just glad we make the plays."

The former No. 1 overall pick is of course referring to the ugly interception he threw in the closing minutes of a Week 2 loss to the Tennessee Titans.

Without Calvin Johnson this season, Stafford led the Lions to three late game-winning drives, and is starting to put together a case for himself as a very good quarterback without one of the greatest weapons in NFL history.
