The collegiate career of Will Likely is over, as tests showed the Maryland defensive back suffered a torn ACL last weekend against Minnesota and will miss the remainder of his senior season.

Head coach D.J. Durkin announced the news on Friday, cutting short the career of the 5-foot-7 standout who is the Terrapins' active leader in tackles and interceptions.

"In the short time I've been here at Maryland, I understand and have a great appreciation for the significant impact Will Likely has had on our football program," Durkin said in a release obtained by Roman Stubbs of The Washington Post. "Will was one of the first people I met with when I accepted this job and it was quickly apparent how much he meant to his teammates and Maryland football."

Likely was one of the most exciting players with the ball in his hands in the country, earning All-American honors as a punt returner last season.

The Florida native ends his career as the program's leader in six different interception and kick-return categories.
