Philadelphia Union clinch final Eastern Conference playoff spot

Reuters

As expected, the Philadelphia Union have clinched the sixth and final playoff spot in the 2016 MLS post-season, losing 2-0 against the New York Red Bulls but maintaining a superior goal differential (-3 to -10) over the New England Revolution, despite Jay Heaps' side defeating the Montreal Impact Sunday.

The Union will be without Maurice Edu, however, as head coach Jim Curtin confirmed Edu had fractured his tibia in a non-contact training incident, just weeks after returning from a similar tibia stress fracture that ruled him out for much of the 2016 season.

The Union take on Toronto FC at BMO Field in the Eastern Conference Knockout Round on Wednesday, Oct. 26 at 7:30 p.m. ET.
