Braves' Marksberry suffers seizure during medical procedure
Atlanta Braves pitcher Matt Marksberry suffered a collapsed lung and a seizure while undergoing a colonoscopy and is now resting in a Florida hospital.
Marksberry's sister, Bridget, tweeted that Matt was waking up from a medically-induced coma on Thursday afternoon, according to David O'Brien of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
"(Matt) still has a long journey ahead of him. My family and myself appreciate the love and support you have given us," Bridget wrote, according to O'Brien.
Although initial reports on Wednesday suggested he was on life support, family members revealed that Marksberry's vital signs were good despite his being unconscious.
The Braves confirmed to O'Brien that Marksberry was in hospital but would only say he was being treated for "severe dehydration."
On Monday, just days before he apparently entered the hospital, the 26-year-old took to his Twitter account and announced he'd been dealing with an unspecified health issue.
Marksberry, a 15th-round pick in 2013, made his debut with the Braves in 2015; he appeared in four big-league games this season and posted a 5.40 ERA while spending the rest of the year at Triple-A Gwinnett. A shoulder issue ended his 2016 season in July.
