Michigan State's Schilling out indefinitely with knee injury

Matthew O'Haren-USA TODAY Sports

Michigan State's injury woes in the frontcourt got even worse this week, as starting center Gavin Schilling will be out indefinitely following knee surgery.

Schilling suffered a non-contact injury to his right knee in practice last Friday, and after evaluation over the weekend, it has been determined the best course of action for the senior is to have surgery.

"This is certainly an unfortunate setback for Gavin, as he had been practicing very well," head coach Tom Izzo said in a release. "He had an incredible summer and was in excellent shape as he was ready to make his senior season his best one yet."

UNLV transfer Ben Carter is already out for an extended period of time, leaving the Spartans with just three scholarship forwards, none standing taller than 6-foot-8.

Schilling averaged 3.8 points and 3.1 rebounds in 12.5 minutes of action last season for the Spartans.
