Carter-Williams to wear Rose's No. 1 with Bulls

Nothing signifies the end of the Derrick Rose era in the Windy City quite like the new point guard in town taking his old number.

Former NBA Rookie of the Year Michael Carter-Williams was officially traded to the Chicago Bulls by the Milwaukee Bucks on Monday in exchange for Tony Snell.

After donning No. 5 in Milwaukee, the 25-year-old will wear No. 1 with his new squad, even though it was associated with the former league Most Valuable Player.

"I'm not trying to step on anybody's toes or boundaries," Carter-Williams said on Monday about taking the number. "Just a number I like. I feel like I had success in Philly (with No. 1)."

Carter-Williams would have taken No. 1 with the Bucks during his short two-year run with the organization, but it had been retired over 40 years ago for Oscar Robertson.

Rose didn't bring No. 1 with him to the Big Apple, electing to go with No. 25 in his new surroundings - a tribute to slain Chicago high school basketball star Ben "Benji" Wilson, who was shot twice during a confrontation with a student from another school back in 1984. Rose also had the number while attending Simeon Career Academy.
