The New Orleans Saints needed a big kick from their undrafted rookie kicker to put the final nail in the Carolina Panthers on Sunday, and they got just that.

Wil Lutz, who was signed by the Saints days before the season began, knocked in the final points of a 41-38 shootout to give his team their second win of the year, sinkin the Panthers to 1-5.

After Drew Brees led the Saints to a 21-0 lead to start the game, the Panthers roared back with four second-half touchdowns to eventually tie the game at 38 with just under three minutes to go. Brees, who notched 465 yards and four touchdowns, answered with an 11-play drive to set up Lutz's game-winning kick.

In his return from a one-game absence due to a concussion, Cam Newton threw for 322 yards and two touchdowns, while adding a rush for one touchdown.

With their 1-5 record, the Panthers are just the fifth team to follow a Super Bowl appearance with that record. They sit at the bottom of the NFC South.
