5 fast facts you need to know about Colts vs. Jets

Thomas J. Russo / USA TODAY Sports

The New York Jets and the Indianapolis Colts face off Monday night with a lot more at stake for the latter than the former.

The Colts need a win to keep pace with the Houston Texans and Tennessee Titans in the AFC South, but the Jets - whose season is likely done at 3-8 - have more than enough talent to play spoiler.

Here are five fast facts you need to know about the matchup:

All aboard for Revis island

Revis Island is officially open for all, regardless if you're a seasoned veteran or a fresh-faced rookie. That was made abundantly clear last week against the New England Patriots, when first-year wideout Malcolm Mitchell caught two touchdowns on Darrelle Revis. By doing so, he joined a very exclusive club. So exclusive, in fact, that he's the only member. That's right: Mitchell is the only player to ever catch two touchdowns on the aging corner in a single game, according to Jeff Howe of the Boston Herald.

Only greatness ahead

Outside of Andrew Luck, wide receiver T.Y. Hilton has been the biggest success story of the Pagano-Grigson era Colts. Hilton continues to be overlooked, but his numbers stack up to some of the league's all-time greats, including Torry Holt, Randy Moss, Jerry Rice, Julio Jones, A.J. Green, Larry Fitzgerald, and Calvin Johnson. Those are the only seven receivers in NFL history (post-merger) with more receiving yards in their first five seasons than Hilton if he finishes 2016 at his current pace.

Forte, Gore fending off Father Time

Football is a young man's game, but try telling that to running backs Matt Forte and Frank Gore, who are still excelling despite being 30 and 33 years of age, respectively. Gore is on pace for 975 rushing yards, which would tie Emmitt Smith for the fourth-most in NFL history by a 33-plus running back. Meanwhile, Forte is on pace for 1,397 yards from scrimmage, which would be the ninth-best mark in NFL history among age-31 players (a group Forte will join Saturday). Happy early birthday, Matt!

Unfamiliar waters

At the moment, it appears the Colts are unlikely to make the playoffs. A win against New York creates a three-way tie atop the AFC South, but a tough remaining schedule could cause Indy to drop off. If that happens, it'll be the second straight year without a playoff appearance for the Colts. Thanks to Peyton Manning and early magic from Luck, the Colts missed the postseason only three times from 1999-2015, and never consecutively. The Colts could find themselves sitting at home for a second straight season for the first time since the 1997 and 1998 seasons.

What lacerated kidney?

Thirteen months on from losing nearly half the 2015 campaign to a lacerated kidney, Andrew Luck isn't exactly being cautious with his body the way most quarterbacks would be after suffering such an injury. In fact, Luck is running with the ball more than ever before. He has 51 rushes for 246 yards, and should easily break his career highs of 64 attempts and 377 yards.
