Notre Dame's attempt to right the ship just got a little easier.

Stanford running back Christian McCaffrey did not play against the Fighting Irish on Saturday due to an undisclosed injury, head coach David Shaw confirmed to Kathryn Tappen of NBC Sports.

McCaffrey left last week's loss to Washington State with the ailment and remained a question mark all week.

Without McCaffrey, the Cardinal's offense becomes much easier to defend. The junior is one of the most versatile players in the nation, as he's capable of doing damage on the ground, as a receiver, and even as a returner.

McCaffrey came into the season as a Heisman candidate, but has fallen off the radar in recent weeks. He hasn't topped 100 yards in his past two games and has been held out of the end zone across the last three contests.
