Nuggets' Mudiay suffers right ankle sprain vs. Warriors

Reuters

There's never a good time to sustain an injury, but weeks before the start of the regular season definitely has to rank up there as one of the worst.

Denver Nuggets point guard Emmanuel Mudiay sustained a right ankle sprain in Friday's preseason game against the visiting Golden State Warriors at the Pepsi Center.

He left the contest and did not return. Mudiay ended the night with nine points and two assists on 3-of-9 shooting in 19 minutes of action.

It remains to be seen how much time he'll need to miss, if any.

Denver takes the floor again on Oct. 16 against the Portland Trail Blazers at the Moda Center, then follows that up with a trip to Chesapeake Energy Arena to battle the Oklahoma City Thunder on Oct. 18.

The team's final preseason outing comes on Oct. 21 against the Dallas Mavericks before the season gets underway on the road on Oct. 26 against the New Orleans Pelicans.

In 68 appearances during the 2015-16 campaign for the 33-49 Nuggets, Mudiay averaged 12.8 points, 5.5 assists, and 3.4 rebounds, although he shot just 36.4 percent from the field.
