Watch: Werth hosed at home after baserunning gaffe

Brad Mills / USA TODAY Sports

It wasn't even close.

With the Washington Nationals clinging on to a 1-0 lead over the Los Angeles Dodgers in Game 5 of the NLDS, risks needed to be taken.

But this was certainly a questionable decision.

With two outs and Jayson Werth at first base, Ryan Zimmerman clubbed a double to left field. The Dodgers did a decent job of getting the ball to the infield in a hurry, but to their surprise, Werth kept running.

With the ball behind him, it clearly wasn't Werth's call, but as soon as he got the wave to score, he had barely rounded third base when the Dodgers fired the ball to home plate to gun him down by 50 feet.

Already with the game's lone RBI, Danny Espinosa was left on deck, and in the top half of the inning, Joc Pederson belted a game-tying solo homer off Max Scherzer to end his night.
