Miami dismisses freshman WR Sam Bruce

Brett Davis-USA TODAY Sports

Sam Bruce's career at Miami is over without playing a down, as the freshman receiver was dismissed by the program on Monday.

"Freshman wide receiver Sam Bruce has been dismissed from the Miami football program based on multiple violations of team rules and a failure on his part to meet the clear expectations established to be a part of the Miami football program," the school said in a statement obtained by the Orlando Sentinel. "We wish Sam well with his future academic and football endeavors."

The former four-star recruit was a huge commit for the Hurricanes program, as the Florida native was ranked by ESPN as the eighth-best receiver in the 2016 class, and was the 2nd-ranked commit overall in Miami's haul.

Bruce was suspended for the first three games of the season for a gun incident that occurred during his senior year in high school. While he was suspended, Bruce suffered a leg injury that would force him to redshirt for the season.
