Elton John approves of Zobrist's walk-up music
In a round-about sort of way, Chicago Cubs super-utility man Ben Zobrist has the approval of Grammy-award winning musician Elton John.
Zobrist debuted new walk-up music this past Saturday at Wrigley Field as the Cubs hosted the San Francisco Giants in Game 2 of the National League Division Series.
The song, a Cubs-themed version of "Bennie and the Jets," needed the approval of John before it could be played.
"Somewhere around the world, wherever he was, he listened to it and gave his approval," Zobrist told John Hickey of The Mercury News. "I used it for the first time (Saturday) night."
Ben's wife, Julianna, a Christian musician who specializes in electronic music, is responsible for the remake of the song. And it's something her husband is more than happy to use.
"It's pretty cool, it really is," he said. "There's something special about it."
Zobrist, known throughout baseball for his versatility, being deemed the "Swiss Army Knife" of baseball, has been playing left field for the Cubs in the NLDS, despite spending most of the season at second base.
He's hitting just .143 in the series thus far.
