Rams' Fisher 'liked the look' on fake punt late in loss to Bills

Los Angeles Rams head coach Jeff Fisher's questionable fourth-quarter decision making has arguably been one his biggest flaws for some time.

That weakness was again on show Sunday against the Buffalo Bills. Fisher opted to kick a field goal down 23-16 with under six minutes left, meaning the Rams still needed a touchdown to win. Minutes later, the Rams faced a fourth-and-5 deep in their own territory. It was then that Fisher turned aggressive, calling a fake punt to wide receiver Bradley Marquez that was quickly sniffed out by the Bills.

Buffalo quickly score again, ending the Rams' chance, but Fisher said it was the right decision as he "liked the look."

"The reason for (taking) the points is I was playing to win," Fisher said postgame, according to Josh Alper of Pro Football Talk.

"I wouldn't have called it if I didn't think it would work," Fisher continued. "That's how those things are. We practiced it all week, we had the look and it didn't work. I'll take that. They executed it in practice, they didn't execute it there. If that thing works, it's good stuff. It's really good stuff. It didn't and they don't always work. That type of approach in special teams has taken us a long way."

Fisher said he won't make excuses for the loss, but quickly pointed out the Rams were playing with a depleted defense.

"We don't make excuses, but three of our starting four defensive linemen were watching the game today."
