Redskins' Garcon, Jean Francois making relief trip to Haiti

Washington Redskins wide receiver Pierre Garcon and defensive end Ricky Jean Francois - both of Haitian descent - will accompany a plane of medical supplies to Haiti, supporting relief efforts after the island was hit by Hurricane Matthew, a team spokesman told John Keim of ESPN.

The plane, owned by Redskins owner Dan Snyder, also made a trip to Bahamas on Saturday, delivering supplies to hurricane victims.

Garcon has family members who live in Haiti, but said earlier in the week they were safe.

There have been 1,000 reported deaths in the Caribbean nation, and the lack of clean water is causing a rise in cholera that could affect thousands more.

"When it starts to rain, the homes can't withstand just rain, let alone a hurricane," Garcon said.
