Miami's Kaaya to be held out of practice to nurse 'banged up' shoulder

Mark Richt is proceeding with caution when it comes to the health of his starting quarterback.

Richt informed reporters Sunday that quarterback Brad Kaaya will be held out of practice for the early part of the week to rest a shoulder injury suffered in Saturday's game against Florida State, according to Jared Shanker of ESPN.

"He got his shoulder banged up," Richt said. "He probably won't throw for a couple days. We'll see how that goes."

Richt also alluded to testimony from Kaaya that he received multiple hits to the head during Saturday's game, telling Richt they were hits "which I wasn't a fan of." The Miami bench boss told reporters there has been no confirmation that Kaaya suffered a concussion.

"Right now, that's not determined at all," Richt said. "When you take hard hits, it's a shock to the system when you get hit hard. Right now, we're not categorizing anything as a concussion."

If Kaaya is unable to play against North Carolina this coming week, it is expected that backup Malik Rosier will take the reigns of the Miami offense.
