Injury Roundup: Browns lose Kessler, Whitehurst at quarterback

Scott R. Galvin / USA TODAY Sports

One thing is clear after Week 5, the Cleveland Browns quarterback situation is a mess. With both Cody Kessler and Charlie Whitehurst going down on Sunday, the Browns were forced to go exclusively to quarterback-turned-receiver Terrelle Pryor.

Here's a roundup of the notable names that suffered injuries in Week 5:

Marcell Dareus, Bills
Suffered a hamstring injury prior to being able to return from a four-game suspension.

Trumaine Johnson, Rams
Seen on crutches and in a walking boot following loss to Bills. Head coach Jeff Fisher offered no official update.

Eddie Lacy, Packers
Left Sunday's game with an ankle injury in the third quarter. Had ankle re-wrapped but was unable to return to the field.

Cody Kessler, Browns
Set to undergo a CT scan on his ribs after being unable to return to Sunday's loss.

Charlie Whitehurt, Browns
Hyperextended his left knee late in Sunday's game. Said after the game he thinks he'll be fine.

Steve Smith, Ravens
Rolled his ankle and was unable to return to Sunday's game. Doesn't appear to be more serious than a sprain.

Josh Norman, Redskins
Arm injury didn't limit Norman beyond the second quarter, when he was able to return and only allowed one reception for nine yards on three targets.

Cameron Heyward, Steelers
Hamstring injury held him out of the second half of Sunday's game.

Gary Barnidge, Browns
Had his ankle X-rayed following Sunday's game.

Eli Apple, Giants
Was able to suit up after coming into Sunday's game with a hamstring injury, but exited in the first half with a groin injury and did not return.

Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie, Giants
Also suffered a groin injury that held him out of Sunday's game.

Haloti Ngata, Lions
Did not return to Sunday's win over the Eagles after suffering a shoulder injury.
