Detroit Tigers hitting coach Wally Joyner is vacating his role with the team to pursue other opportunities in the game.

Joyner has been in his role since 2014. Tigers assistant hitting coach David Newhan now sees his job hang in the balance, as his position depends on the decision of the new hitting coach.

Aside from Joyner leaving, the entirety of Brad Ausmus' staff will be retained for the 2017 season.

Over the last three seasons, the Tigers led the American League in batting average twice, and finished second this year. Detroit also had four players with 25 or more home runs this season - the first time the club has achieved that feat in franchise history.
