Vorm replaces injured Cillessen in Dutch squad

Tottenham Hotspur's backup goalkeeper Michel Vorm has been drafted into Danny Blind's Netherlands squad due to an ankle injury suffered by Jasper Cillessen in training Saturday.

The Barcelona shot-stopper will be sent back to his club for further assessment from the Blaugrana's medical team.

For Vorm, it's an unlikely return to international consideration. He won his last Dutch cap as a substitute in the 3-0 third-place play-off win against Brazil at the 2014 World Cup.

He was called up amid injuries to other options in Tim Krul and Kenneth Vermeer, and can boast some senior match practice after deputising for Hugo Lloris in three starts at club level recently.

Maarten Stekelenburg's starting berth is likely to go untroubled ahead of Monday's World Cup qualifying visit from France. The Everton man minded the net for Friday's comprehensive 4-1 defeat of Belarus.
