Coaching Hot Seat Meter: Strong barely hanging on at Texas

Every week, theScore's Coaching Hot Seat Meter will examine those in danger of losing their jobs in college football. Follow along each week to see which coaches are feeling the heat.

Brian Kelly - Notre Dame

Kelly's seat has been warming on a steady pace throughout the season. It's still unlikely he gets sent packing, but with Notre Dame now 2-4 and in danger of missing a bowl game, the notion isn't as crazy as it once was.

The Irish lost 10-3 to NC State on Saturday in terrible weather, after Kelly didn't adjust his game plan for the conditions. DeShone Kizer attempted 26 passes, completing only nine of them for 54 yards. It was evident to everyone watching that the terrible weather wouldn't allow for a passing attack, but Kelly's stubbornness really hurt the team.

Notre Dame needs four wins in its final six games to reach a bowl, which is going to be very challenging. With games against Stanford, Miami, USC, and Virginia Tech still to come, Kelly's job could be discussed if the Irish aren't bowling.

Mark Helfrich - Oregon

Don't look now, but Oregon has suddenly lost four straight games and in embarrassing fashion.

The Ducks were hit with 70 points from Washington on Saturday, which was the most they've conceded in a game since 1941, and the loss was their first against the Huskies since 2003. Prior to that, Helfrich's team gave up 51 in a loss to Washington State and 41 against Colorado. It's going to take some work for Oregon to reach a bowl game, something it's missed out on only twice since 1996.

Helfrich's national championship game appearance in 2014 seems like a lifetime ago, and the drop off between him and Chip Kelly seems to be growing by the week.

Steve Addazio - Boston College

Addazio has now not won a conference game since 2014 after Friday's abysmal performance against Clemson.

Boston College's number one defense from a year ago has suddenly deserted them, forcing Patrick Towles and a sluggish Eagles attack to try and pick up the slack. If you've watched even five minutes of Boston College in the past two years, you know that isn't going to end well. In three games against ACC opponents this year, Addazio's crew has combined for a measly 24 points.

The defense came into the game against Clemson leading the FBS by conceding on 3.5 yards per play, but promptly gave up a whopping 56 points to the Tigers for the most lopsided defeat at home against a ranked team in program history.

It's probably time for Addazio to go.

Charlie Strong - Texas

One of the things that helped save Strong's job last year was that he beat Oklahoma. He won't have that luxury this season.

Texas lost its third straight game after falling to the Sooners in the Red River Rivalry, and it marked the fourth time in five games the Longhorns conceded at least 45 points. Strong taking over the defense this week didn't help whatsoever, as Texas gave up nearly 700 yards of offense. The Longhorns now have two winnable games before they meet Baylor later this month, though the term winnable should be used loosely based on Strong's defense.

Strong will need to win five of his final seven games to set a new season high while with the Longhorns, and even that may not be enough to save his job.
