Cote: Like Mayweather-Pacquiao, rumored GSP-Silva bout is too late

Patrick Cote is keeping it real when it comes to his friend Georges St-Pierre fighting again.

The UFC's return to Toronto on Dec. 10 already had one major spot filled when light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier agreed to a rematch with Anthony Johnson earlier this week. However, that bout wasn't officially anointed the main event, leading to speculation there's still room at the top for a certain welterweight great.

"GSP" has teased an upcoming major announcement, and one rumor floating around the web Friday was he'll end his three-year retirement to face fellow legend Anderson Silva. Cote took to Twitter to address the rumor, comparing it to another highly anticipated combat sports encounter that may have happened past its best before date.

When St-Pierre and Silva were the rulers of their respective divisions, fans clamored for the UFC to book a meeting between the two. For various reasons, the fight never materialized.

Even if the fight fizzles like Mayweather-Pacquiao, as Cote suggests, it's safe to assume there'd still be massive interest in one of MMA's most talked about dream matches.
