Report: Coughlin met with Bills about consultant role early in offseason

Tom Coughlin's efforts to remain in football following an extended run with the New York Giants indeed appear to have involved talks with the Buffalo Bills.

After several days of conflicting reports on the matter, agent Sandy Montag told ESPN's Chris Mortensen that his client met with the Bills about a consultant role in March or April.

The meeting reportedly lasted a mere hour, and Coughlin later decided, along with head coach Rex Ryan, that the two sides wouldn't be a fit.

Coughlin eventually accepted a position as the NFL's senior advisor, and he remains in that role several weeks into the 2016 season.

Whether he makes a return to coaching will likely depend on the fit with jobs that open up over the winter, but taking an interview with the Philadelphia Eagles after parting ways with the Giants at least appeared to confirm such an interest level.

Coughlin compiled a 102-90 regular season record and led the way to a pair of Super Bowl titles across 12 years at the helm in New York. With that highly successful run tacked on to the 68-60 mark he managed with the Jacksonville Jaguars beforehand, the 70-year-old is tied for 13th all time in wins.
