Citing improvement, Smart says Chubb to be game-time decision

Georgia might not have to face Tennessee without Nick Chubb after all.

After a report surfaced earlier Friday that the star running back would miss Saturday's game with a sprained ankle, Bulldogs head coach Kirby Smart said Chubb will be a game-time decision.

"Nick has improved in the last probably 48 hours immensely," Smart told ESPN's Paul Finebaum. "We're going to go out tomorrow in warmups, see how he does and if the medical staff clears him, he is going to play."

Whether or not the junior standout can play will likely go a long way in determining the outcome of the game. Chubb leads Georgia in rushing with 422 yards and three touchdowns. After a serious-looking injury in last week's loss to Ole Miss, Smart admitted he feared the worst for the Georgia native.

"I thought earlier in the week that he was very doubtful," the first-year Bulldogs coach admitted. "I didn't know if he would be able to (play), but yesterday, he was able to do a lot. He ran better and had some good speed, so we felt a lot better about it yesterday."

Should Chubb not be able to play, Sony Michel and Brian Herrien will likely see the bulk of the carries for a rushing attack that ranks fifth in the conference.
