Grizzlies' Marc Gasol: To get periodic rest

The Grizzlies are planning to give Gasol periodic nights off during the regular season, the Geoff Calkins of the Memphis Commercial Appeal reports. "There will be some games we sit [Gasol]," coach David Fizdale said. "I'm definitely going to preserve him."

Analysis:

Early reviews from camp regarding Gasol have been overwhelmingly positive, with the veteran center going as far as to say he feels better physically than ever before. Still, the Grizzlies will be cautious with their franchise center, whose 2015-16 season was cut short by a fractured right foot. The Grizzlies haven't announced a firm plan as far as when or how often Gasol will rest, but the most likely scenario would be Gasol sitting out one half of certain back-to-back sets to avoid excessive strain on the surgically repaired foot.
