Lakers' Young believes he'll play better under Walton than Scott

It's the dawning of a new era for the Los Angeles Lakers franchise, not only due to Kobe Bryant's retirement, but also because Luke Walton - who went 39-4 in an interim role with the Golden State Warriors last season - has taken over as head coach.

That's music to the ears of "Swaggy P" Nick Young, who feels he'll be less constrained under Walton than he was working with the previous regime.

"The style of play fits my style," Young said during media day on Monday. "I can still be me here a little bit and nobody here is harping on my personality no more. That’ll be all right."

Young also described Walton as being "laid back," but "still knows what he's doing."

Former coach Byron Scott rained down on Young with criticism of his game, attitude, and over-the-top personality during his two-year run manning the sidelines. The now 31-year-old gunslinger even found himself from time to time next to Scott because of his play and poor body language.

The Lakers didn't exercise their option on Scott's contract for this upcoming season, though, electing to go with Walton instead. The final nail in his coffin was the team's horrid 17-65 finish for the worst record in team history, the second year in a row Los Angeles had set a new benchmark for losing.

Young averaged a career-low 7.3 points on 33.9 percent shooting from the field in 2015-16, with a player efficiency rating of 9.1 and usage rate of 18.5 .
