Stanford starting corners Meeks, Holder out vs. Washington

The last thing any football coach wants to hear is that he will be without his two starting cornerbacks for a game against a high-octane offense.

Stanford head coach David Shaw currently has that problem.

Shaw announced Tuesday that both sophomore Quenton Meeks and junior Alijah Holder will be out for Saturday's game against Washington with undisclosed injuries, according to David Lombardi of ESPN. While the Cardinal head coach confirmed both players' status, no specifics on the injuries were given.

"We're facing a (Washington) team with a lot of speed, so we have to stay fresh," Shaw said.

It is expected that juniors Alameen Murphy and Terrence Alexander will be two men called upon to fill the void in the defensive backfield against an offense known for its passing prowess.

Stanford will also be without wide receiver Francis Owusu after the senior suffered a concussion on a helmet-to-helmet hit from UCLA defensive back Tahaan Goodman. Fullback Daniel Marx has also been ruled out after being injured late in Saturday's game against the Bruins.
