In you've forgotten about his day job, Colin Kaepernick is still trying to become the San Francisco 49ers' starting quarterback.

First, he needs to put on some weight.

Kaepernick and head coach Chip Kelly agree that the quarterback needs to put some meat on his bones after he dropped a lot of weight following offseason surgeries.

"Eat food and a lot of it," Kaepernick told Matt Barrows of the Sacramento Bee of his weight-gaining plans. "That's something I've always had to do, I've always had to be conscious of.

"I have a very lean body type, so putting weight on for me is a little more difficult (than for) others."

The plan to bulk up may be easier said than done as Kaepernick has been on a vegan diet for the last 10 months. He is adamant that the diet has made him healthier and won't impede his ability to gain weight.

"The fact that my weight isn't where it was, my strength is still growing, developing," Kaepernick said. "But once again, I'm always going to be prepared, always willing to put it on the line for this team."
