Rivers: No 'gap' between Clippers and Warriors

David Richard-USA TODAY Sports

Although the rivalry between the Los Angeles Clippers and Golden State Warriors has long been decided in favor of those in yellow, Doc Rivers still sees the clubs as equals.

Rivers maintains that the Clippers can compete with any team in the league. That includes the reloaded Warriors, who ended up with Kevin Durant - the superstar Rivers spent much of the offseason recruiting.

"I think we can play with anybody, and we don't feel like there's a gap," Rivers told reporters in regard to challenging Golden State. "That's all we have to prove, and I think everyone has to prove that."

Rivers' side didn't get that chance last season. Los Angeles ducking out in the first round (mostly due to injuries) ruined a second-round date with Golden State.

But during the regular season, the Warriors swept all four games against the Clippers - including a dramatic, come-from-behind victory at Staples Center that left Chris Paul in a catatonic state.

Rivers, however, still has his doubts about Golden State.

"I know history very well in this league, and there's been a lot of superteams put together, quote-unquote, superteams, and I know the history," he said. "I feel comfortable where we're at."
